Pizza dinner with colleagues 06 Jul. 2022
Fabio,
Waheed, and I went out for dinner for the first time since Waheed arrived from
Pakistan in March. I was in Belgium in March, Waheed had Ramadan in April, and
we were busy for conferences and so on in May and June. Considering his
religion, we went to a pizzeria and had pizza with vegetables on it, Margherita
and Parmigiana.

POTPLOS appeared in Calyos news 11 Jun. 2022
The
presentation made at the UIT conference in Gaeta is the result of tests carried
out with Calyos colleagues in October 2021 and March 2022. The object was a
flat PHP for heat spreader. Typical PHPs have an evaporator and a condenser at
both ends and heat is transferred in a one-dimensional (1D) direction, but our
PHP is designed to be used with the heat in the centre of one side and the
condenser on the other side, i.e. in a 3D direction. News with POTPLOS link was
posted on Calyos website.

Vote 02 Jul. 2022
Next
Sunday, the House of Councillors elections will be held in Japan. Japanese
nationals living abroad can also vote. Voting abroad is done in advance so that
ballots can be mailed to Japan by the election day. Today I cast my vote at the
Consulate General in Milan. The procedure reminded me of Japanese bureaucracy -
that is, following the rules exactly, even if they seem redundant or
time-consuming. My name and ID number I wrote on the envelop were checked four
times by four different officials.

Dominant frequency 04 Jul. 2022
The
image shows the 95% confidence intervals of dominant frequency values for the
entire device as a function of heat power input. The dominant frequency
increases along the increase of power input, which is a typical behavior of
PHPs. The dominant frequency of 1~1.5 Hz is also reported in several past
studies of PHPs regardless the tube/channel diameter.

Berserk translated into Italian The
Nerd Show was held last weekend in Bologna. My colleague told me how much fun
it was, with lots of cosplayers, manga stores, and a live anime song singer. He
bought Berserk as his first manga translated into Italian. I was happy that he
remembered that it is my favorite manga. A year after the sudden death of its
creator Miura, the sequel, produced by his childhood-friend manga artist and
staff, was finally released, coincidentally on the same weekend.

Project overview
Innovative
heat transport devices are needed to break-though the increasing need
for smaller, faster and lighter microelectronic apparatus. A Pulsating Heat Pipe (PHP) is
a promisingtwo-phase passive loop device that has many advantages such
as high heat transfer capacity, construction
simplicity, lightweight, and low-cost. However, the practical use of
PHP has been limited due to insufficiency of design tools, i.e.
predictive models for hydrodynamic and heat transfer phenomena. The aim
of this proposal is to establish a universal model to predict operating
limit of PHP and provide an optimal design solution that maximize PHP
heat transport capability. An innovative approach using advanced measurements with high-resolution and high-speed infrared cameras and Inverse Heat Conduction Problem (IHCP) techniques will be taken to reveal the local thermal phenomena of the liquid-vapor interaction and obtain important physical parameters to implement the model. Both an experimental and a modeling approach will be used to reach the project goal. |
